PRESS RELEASE
Nairobi, Thursday, 15th May 2025: The CPF Group has today officially launched the CPF Foundation; a non-profit initiative dedicated to improving the quality of life of vulnerable older persons in Kenya through targeted social impact programs and advocacy.
With a bold vision to promote the care and dignity of older persons - starting in Kenya and expanding regionally - the Foundation aims to impact over 500,000 vulnerable older people by 2030. It is committed to advancing dignity, inclusivity, and quality of life for senior citizens and underserved communities through targeted investments in community development, climate resilience, healthcare access, and economic empowerment.
Speaking during the launch, held at the Louis Leakey Auditorium at the National Museum, Dr. Hosea Kili, MBS, the Managing Director and CEO of CPF Group, noted: “The CPF Foundation is a natural extension of our Group’s long-standing work in pension management. While CPF has helped thousands retire with dignity, the Foundation ensures we go even further, working with like-minded partners to reach those who are often left behind and giving them the support and resources to thrive.”
“Our goal is not to reinvent the wheel, but to be a catalytic partner - supporting the incredible work already being done by grassroots organizations, government actors, and international partners in building resilient communities- specifically where the elderly are concerned,” the Chairperson of the CPF Foundation Board of Directors, Sue Omanga, added.
International development stakeholders hailed the initiative as timely. Wycliffe Opara, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Coordinator for Kenya, stated: “A society is judged by how it treats its elderly. CPF Foundation’s commitment aligns with global efforts toward social justice and decent livelihoods, particularly in aging societies like ours.”
As part of its collaborative approach, the CPF Foundation has partnered with organizations like HelpAge International and Suqoon Kenya, among others, to implement high-impact programs. On his part, Kenyatta Mwawashe, Country Director of HelpAge Kenya, remarked: “This partnership bridges policy and grassroots impact. It’s an opportunity to ensure that older persons are not only seen and heard - but included in development.”
Shakira Khawaja, Founder of Suqoon Kenya and renowned philanthropist, noted: “CPF Foundation understands the power of healing, dignity, and belonging. Our partnership will support trauma-informed community programs for women and elderly caregivers, especially in urban informal settlement.”
The CPF Foundation has already initiated pilot projects in Tana River and Machakos, focusing on decent housing and accessible healthcare for the elderly.
As Kenya faces increasing pressure to meet the needs of its aging population, the CPF Foundation offers a beacon of hope and a platform for collective action.
